Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Helps CMMC Patients Following Surgery
Central Maine Medical Center has a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for patients emerging from anesthesia.
Once surgical patients are stabilized, they are transported to appropriate nursing care units.
Patients are assessed and monitored carefully as they regain consciousness. CMMC's PACU staff cares for 20 to 30 patients per day, with an average post-anesthesia stay for each patient of about 60 minutes. About 60 percent of CMMC's PACU patients are same-day surgery patients who are discharged a few hours after they have surgery.
