Calcium/Creatinine Ratio

Mnemonic:    [UNLIST LAB]
Name:    Calcium/Creatinine Ratio
Specimen:    1 mL random urine AND 1 mL of plasma from a Green PST or (preferred) or serum from Red SST.
Reference Range:    < 0.16 mG/100 mL GF
  Method:    Spectrophotometric/ Calculation
Note:    The mG of urine calcium per 100 mL of glomerular filtrate (GF) is calculated using measurements of urine calcium and creatinine and serum creatinine in the following equation:

Calcium/creatinine ratio (mG/100 mL GF) =
UCa (mG/dL)(serum creat mG/dL)/ UCreat mG/dL
Processing Info:    Serum and random urine must be received together. Acidify an aliquot of urine to a pH of 1.5 - 5.0, then let stand 1 hour before centrifugation) A calcium and creatinine are run on the urine supernatent and a creatinine is run on serum.
