Name:    Growth Hormone
Specimen:    1 mL serum from a Red SST or Red top tube, or plasma from a Green PST. Patient Prep: Patient must be fasting and at complete rest for 30 minutes before blood collection.

Specimen Preparation: Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature. Separate serum or plasma from cells within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate within 3 hours of collection. Freeze serum/plasma within 8 hours of collection.

Unacceptable Conditions: Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.
Minimum Spec:    0.4 mL
Transport Temp:    Refrigerated
Spec Stability:    Stable 24 hours ambient.

Note: The Growth Hormone assay is now standardized to the Recombinant Second International Standard (IS) 98/574. Growth hormone results read approximately 25% lower than with the previous standards (1st IS 80/505). Reference ranges have also been modified according to the assay manufacturer.
