Name:    Fecal Fat, Quantitative (Timed Sample Collection)
Specimen:     20 mL (20 grams) of a homogenized aliquot from a 24, 48 or 72 hour stool collection. Refrigerate during collection.

This test is for a TIMED stool sample collection. Do not order this test for a random stool collection.

Samples containing barium or charcoal are unacceptable.

Preserved samples are unacceptable.

Note:    Patient Preparation: The patient should be on a diet consisting of 50-150 grams of fat per day for three days prior to the start of sample collection.

Containers larger than 500 mL (500 gms) will be rejected and discarded by the reference lab.

-Amount of deionized water used to make the homogenate
--If the collection time and weight information is NOT sent to ARUP; they will cancel this test and order a Qualitiative Fecal Fat. Make sure the SR TIME and SR WEIGHT information is verified in PathNet and written on the container sent to ARUP.
