|Mnemonic: ||[HepC Qnt R]|
|Name: ||Hepatitis C Quantitative PCR w/ reflex to Genotype by Sequencing|
|Specimen: ||4 mL serum from a Red SST or Red top tube. EDTA plasma is also acceptable.|
Heparinized samples are unacceptable.
Separate serum/plasma from cells within 6 hours of collection.
Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
|Minimum Spec: ||1.5 mL|
|Transport Temp: ||FREEZE|
|Spec Stability: ||Stable 3 days refrigerated.|
|Ref Lab/Code: ||ARUP 2002685|
| Method: ||Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)|
|Note: ||Note: The limit of quantification for the HCV Quantitative RNA assay is 1.6 log IU/mL (43 IU/mL). If the assay DID NOT DETECT the virus, the test result will be reported as "<1.6 log IU/mL (<43 IU/mL)." If the assay DETECTED the presence of the virus but was not able to accurately quantify the number of copies the test result will be reported as "Not Quantified."|
If Hepatitis C Virus RNA Quantitative Real-Time PCR result is greater than or equal to 2.8 log IU/mL, then Hepatitis C Virus Genotyping by PCR & Sequencing will be added. Additional charges apply.
This test is intended for use in conjuction with clinical presentation and other laboratory markers as an indicator of disease prognosis. This test is also used in assessing viral response to antiretroviral treatment as measured by changes in HCV RNA levels.
