Chromosome FISH, Interphase

Mnemonic:    [ChrFISH I]
Name:    Chromosome FISH, Interphase
Specimen:     Collect one 10 mL green (sodium heparin) tube of peripheral blood or a 3 mL non-diluted sample of bone marrow aspirate collected in a heparinzed syringe and transferred into a green (sodium heparin) tube.

Other fresh tissue sample types may be acceptable (This cannot be performed on a paraffin block). Contact the Cytogenetics Lab for specimen collection and transportation instructions for samples other than peripheral blood or bone marrow.

Desired FISH probe and pertinent clinical diagnosis required with test order. Testing will not be performed until probe and diagnosis are provided; absence of this information will delay turnaround time.
Transport Temp:    Store and transport sample at Room Temperature.
Spec Stability:    Stable 2 days ambient.

Note:    It is recommended that all FISH studies be done in conjuntion with routine cytogenetic analysis. If FISH only is requested, please include a copy of previous cytogenetics report.
Processing Info:    Frozen, clotted or paraffin-embedded specimens are unacceptable.
