Special Projects |
Individuals do not have to be registered volunteers to help
out at CMMC. Consider the following:
Annual Holiday Adopt-A-Child Program
At Christmas time the employees of CMMC join together to
'adopt' underprivileged children from a local Head Start center.
The employees try to provide the kids with the items on his/her
wish list. Help is always needed with hand-knitted hats, mittens,
scarves and sweaters. Toys are needed too! The project is
coordinated by the Employee Special Events Committee (ESEC)
and the contact person is Geri St. Amand; she can be reached
at 795-2249.
Annual Mitten Tree
The Employee Special Events Committee sponsors the Annual
Mitten Tree. After Thanksgiving, a tree display is placed
in the hospital cafeteria. Anyone is invited to place purchased
or handmade mittens, gloves, hats and scarves on the tree.
The items are given to pediatric healthcare providers to distribute
to patients during the winter season.
Beanies and sweaters for premature infants
Several community residents knit beanies, sweaters and Afghans
for premature infants in the Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit
(NICU). Volunteers has a good supply of donated yarn and several
patterns available for knitters.
Lap quilts
Volunteers always needs people who love to crochet and knit
to make lap quilts (Afghans) for patients who are cold or
just need a little something special to call their own. Volunteers
has a good supply of donated yarn and several patterns available.
Blood Drives
CMMC hosts at least four blood drives per year. The volunteer
services director and the American Red Cross coordinate these
drives. Volunteers are needed to help with donor registration,
monitoring the canteen table and escorting donors.
Community healthcare events
CMMC regularly hosts community education fairs. The Medical
Center can always use help at the tables, handing out information,
and registering participants.
For more information on any of these activities, contact
the Volunteer Services Department at 795-2472.
