Student Services |
Student Housing Facilities
- Rooms at an apartment building within walking distance to Central Maine Medical Center are available to students in the School of Radiologic Technology. The rooms are rented with the provision that the student is responsible for the care of the room to which he/she is assigned.
- A refundable room deposit of $100 is required of all students requesting resident facilities. Rent is to be paid every four months by September 1, January 1, and May 1 each year.
- Single and double occupancy efficiency apartments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must request single or double occupancy rooms from the program director. Students may also reside off campus.
- A complete list of resident policies will be presented to each resident by the program director. Students must abide by these policies. Any infraction of these rules may result in the student being expelled from the residence.
Meals
- The hospital cafeteria is available to students. Students may purchase meals at the employee-discounted rate with their hospital ID badge.
Library
- The Gerrish True Health Science Library, located on the first floor of CMMC, is available 24 hours a day and staffed Monday through Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm. For access during the off-hours, students may swipe their badge to enter the library. In its collections, the library contains books, journals, indexes, and a health information file. The library also participates in inter-library loans and has capabilities for computerized literature searching. Students are encouraged to use this library in all stages of their education.
- The School of Radiologic Technology has a collection of text, reference books, and journals available to students.
- The department of radiology and the radiologists at CMMC have many books available at the hospital. These books may be used by the students, but should not be taken out of the radiology department.
- The CMCC Library, Auburn Public Library, Lewiston Library, Lewiston-Auburn College Library, and the Ladd Library at Bates College are also available for student access.
Parking
- All students having cars are required to register their cars with the security department and adhere to the hospital parking plan.
- Students may park in any employee lot. Students assigned to the evening rotation that are unable to find space in the employee lots may park in the Holland St. Lot and move their vehicle to an employee lot at 4 pm. Students residing in the on-campus apartments may park in the lower section of Lot J on the corner of Lowell and Middle Streets.
Student Health Services
- The employee/occupational health office is open from 7 am 4:30 pm Monday through Friday for radiography students. The employee health office extension is 2830.
- Students may use the employee/occupational health office for assessment and referral. Employee/occupational health cannot prescribe medications or order diagnostic tests. The student's primary care physician should be the student's first line of treatment. A physician is available in the emergency department for emergency treatment. Fees for treatment in the emergency department and fees incurred in referrals are the responsibility of the student.
- Students may consult with a physician of their choice at their own expense.
- Hepatitis B, measles, mumps, and rubella immunizations (or a positive titer) are required prior to the student's attendance. A tetanus/diphtheria immunization is required within the past 10 years. Physician verification of chicken pox or a varicella titer is required. These immunizations are required prior to attendance and may be obtained through the student’s primary care physician.
- TB tests are required annually. Flu vaccinations may be available at no charge to the student.
- All students must have a physical examination with their primary care physician within 12 months of the beginning of the program. The cumulative health record is kept by the School of Nursing for each student. The cost for the health records review by the School of Nursing will be billed to the students on a yearly basis.
- All students are required to purchase accident insurance through CMMC. The cost will be billed to the students on a yearly basis. Details of the plan are available from the program director.
- An optional sickness insurance plan is provided for student purchase. Applications are available from the program director.
Student Assistance Program
- Students may access the Affiliated Employee Assistance Program for personal counseling. Confidential assessment and referral services for aid in dealing with a variety of life challenges are available. The Affiliated Employee Assistance Program provides confidential support, suggestions and/or referrals. It’s voluntary, it’s free and it’s completely confidential.
- The Affiliated Employee Assistance Program may be accessed 24 hours/day, 7 days/week at 1-800-769-9819. Individuals may also request information from the program director.
