Many Options Are Available When Choosing Anesthesia

Anesthesiologists at CMMC use a variety of technologies and medications to administer anesthesia safely and tolerably to patients.

Some patients may be concerned about the side effects of anesthesia, especially a general anesthesia. The good news is that today anesthesiologists can administer medications that cause fewer after-effects during the recovery process.

Other frequently used techniques include the epidural catheter, which delivers pain-killers directly to nerves near the spine to deaden pain signals, and patient controlled analgesic (PCA) systems that allow patients to control their pain-relief dosage by pressing a button connected to a computer. Patient-controlled medication can be delivered through an intravenous or epidural catheter.

If you are having surgery of any kind, be sure to discuss all the options with the anesthesiologist.
