Pediatrics is the specialty of medical science concerned
with the physical, emotional, and social health of children
from birth to young adulthood. Pediatric care encompasses
a broad spectrum of health services ranging from preventive
healthcare to the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic
diseases. Pediatricians deal with biological, social, and
environmental influences on the developing child, and with
the impact of disease and dysfunction on development. The
pediatrician understands the dynamic nature of the patients
growth and development.
Pediatricians are certified through the American Board of
Pediatrics. Some pediatricians develop an expertise in a subspecialty
and gain further certification.
At CMMC there are several pediatricians who are certified
in the subspecialty of neonatal-perinatal medicine, the care
of sick newborn infants. They provide direct patent care and
consult with other physicians in planning for the care of
mothers who have high-risk pregnancies. They also consult
with general pediatricians as they routinely care for most
newborns.
CMMCs board-certified pediatric cardiologist is a medical
specialist who provides comprehensive care to children with
cardiovascular problems, including the heart and circulatory
system. |
