Physician Specialties Orthopaedic Surgery

Orthopaedic surgery is the specialty that includes the preservation and restoration of the form and function of the extremities, spine, and associated structures. Orthopaedic surgeons care for patients whose musculoskeletal problems develop at any time during their lifetime. Such problems include congenital deformities, trauma, infections, tumors, and metabolic disturbances and degenerative diseases. Some orthopaedic surgeons specialize in particular regions of the body, such as the hand or spine. Others specialize in specific procedures such as joint replacement.

Orthopaedic surgeons are certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
