Physician Specialties Neurology

Neurologists specialize in diagnosing and treating disease or impaired function of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, muscles and autonomic nervous system, as well as the blood vessels that relate to these structures. The neurologist performs and interprets tests that relate to the central or peripheral nervous system or to the muscles. A neurologist often serves as a consultant to other physicians.

The neurologist gains certification by successfully completing an examination presented by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
