Physician Specialties Hematology

Hematologists treat diseases of the blood, spleen and lymph glands, focusing on such conditions as anemia, clotting disorders, sickle call disease, hemophilia, leukemia and lymphoma. They perform special types of transfusions and biopsy bone marrow for analysis.

Physicians who pursue certification in hematology through the American Board of Internal Medicine must first be certified in internal medicine.
