Physician Specialties Cardiology

Cardiologists are physicians who specialize in diseases of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system. They manage complex cardiac conditions such as heart attacks and abnormal heartbeat rhythms and perform complicated diagnostic procedures, including cardiac catheterization. They also consult with cardiac surgeons regarding patients who require open-heart surgery.

All cardiologists who attain certification in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine must first be certified in internal medicine.
