The evolution of medical science has
resulted in ever-increasing physician specialization. While
very beneficial to the public health, this trend has resulted
in an array of medical specialists that many laypeople find
bewildering. The following glossary provides a summary explanation
of the various specialists represented on the Central Maine
Medical Family medical staffs. These definitions are revised
and abridged from materials published by the American Board
of Medical Specialties.
