Nurse Midwives |
In the United States, a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is an advanced practice nurse who has specialized education and training in the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Certified Nurse Midwives of Central Maine Obstetrics and Gynecology provide a comfortable, intimate and caring atmosphere for their patients. As midwives, we value your ability to have a healthy pregnancy and to give birth in a supportive hospital environment where you are provided the opportunity to make choices about your birth experience. Our nurse-midwives are very involved in labor and delivery, sometimes never leaving the mother during the labor process. They are trained to recognize signs and symptoms that deviate from normal conditions and will consult with a physician who may become involved if needed.
Our services include annual exams, birth control counseling, IUD insertion, preconception counseling, care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and care through out menopause.
Midwifery care focused on health promotion and encourages women to be partners in their care. Informed choices are made based on each individual's unique physical and emotional needs, and each of our midwives will take the time to listen to you and answer your questions.
In May 2009, we will begin to offer a "Centering Pregnancy" experience where women will begin to take an even more active role in their prenatal experience. Prenatal visits will become a model of group care, as Centering is built on the basic premise that care is most effectively and efficiently provided in groups that are facilitated rather than taught.
We are most eager to discuss this customized care model with you as you plan for your pregnancy experience.
We are available to meet with you any time to help you decide whether midwifery care is the right choice for you. |
