Women's Health Baby's Car Seat

Maine law requires that your baby (and youngsters) ride in an appropriate child safety seat. If cost is a concern, call The Maine Injury Prevention Program at 1-800-698-3624, ext. 4288, to find out if you qualify to receive a free car seat. This is something you need to act on ahead of time, to be sure you have a seat before your baby is born.

Once you have the seat, you will want to install it and then have it inspected at a car seat inspection station. Visit the Safe Kids Maine web site to find an inspection station.

CMMC offers car seat safety instruction as part of its Infant Care class. Check the Childbirth Education events calendar for class dates and times.

Hospital staff is also happy to show you how to safely secure your baby, before you leave the hospital. Modifications will be made should health concerns prevent your infant from riding in a standard car seat.
