Ductogram |
A Ductogram is a mammography procedure to look for small
growths in a specified breast duct in order to evaluate the
cause of a clear or bloody nipple discharge determined to
be spontaneous (caused without known stimulation), unilateral
(one breast), and from a single duct (identified from only
one area on the nipple). Ductography is a well-tolerated procedure
that involves inserting a tiny catheter tip into the duct
and inserting a very small amount of liquid, contrast material.
A mammogram is then performed to take a picture of the duct
system as outlined by the material in order to detect any
filling defects (area that the contrast material doesn't
show up that would indicate the presence of a growth, most
commonly found to be a papilloma which is a benign, polyp
type growth in the lining of the breast duct).
