Bariatric Surgery |
Bariatric surgery, also called weight loss surgery, encompasses the surgical procedures performed specifically for the purpose of attempting to induce appetite control, weight loss, and long-term dietary modification. There are a number of surgical options available to treat obesity, but each requires painstaking diagnostic work-ups and careful preparation on the patient’s part. Unlike some other surgical disciplines, bariatric surgeons must work with their patients over a relatively long time horizon, often stretching to a year or more.
