Chest Pain Sign

Until a definitive diagnosis is made, Central Maine Medical Center's emergency professionals treat patients with chest pain as potential cardiac patients. A possible cardiac patient is set up on a cardiac monitor and as a precaution is administered oxygen. Intravenous lines may be started so life-saving drugs can be administeredquickly if needed.

CMMC’s Chest Pain Center, located in the Emergency Department, is an observation suite featuring two specially-equipped patient care rooms where patients with chestpain can undergo diagnostic testing while being monitored by emergency care providers. The suite helps physicians reduce the time needed to determine the cause of a patient's chest pain.

If a patient’s assessment so warrants, the emergency care team initiates a rapid response. Once the patient's condition is stable, the emergency physician may consult with one or more cardiologists for possible follow-up. Throughout the evaluation and treatment process, the staff communicates with the patient and family about what is occurring.
