Rehabilitation - The Healing Process Services and Programming

The Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine offers patients and their family members educational and support services that are important to optimum rehabilitation and recovery, including the following:

  • Pre-operative education classes introduce total joint replacement patients and their families to what to do and expect throughout the course of care
  • Post-surgical individual instruction in walking with assistive devices and/or braces
  • Tips and hints for preparing a home for a patient's safe recovery
  • Instruction in self-care skills like bathing, dressing, etc.
  • Home exercise training for restoring motion and strength
  • Accessing post-discharge rehabilitation services such as home health therapy or outpatient therapy
