The Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine (OICM) is a dedicated orthopaedic care center at Central Maine Medical Center that provides outstanding patient-centered care to residents of central, western and mid-coast Maine.
OICM is the product of a unique relationship between Central Maine Orthopaedics, a multi-specialty orthopaedic surgery practice, and CMMC, the region’s healthcare referral center. These two organizations work together to ensure a seamless transition along the care continuum in both inpatient and outpatient settings. OICM is the only program of its kind in Maine offering a full range of sub-specialty orthopaedic services.
A key component of the OICM is its multidisciplinary care team that includes physicians, physician assistants, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthotists, case managers, social workers and pastoral care services. OICM services include diagnostic tests, arthroscopic surgery, total joint replacement, foot and ankle surgery, hand surgery, sports medicine, and more.
OICM has developed a care delivery system called Core Connect Care TM, which features professionals with demonstrated expertise in orthopaedics. This system connects the team with individual patients to provide definitive care along the entire path from diagnosis through treatment and physical therapy to recovery. To best support Core Connect Care, the OICM facility is located on a single floor at CMMC, where everything and everyone a patient needs is readily available, and where there’s no worry about stairs, elevators, or transport to another building or facility for tests or treatment.
OICM delivers excellent best-practice care to patients in an environment that offers many comforts and amenities. The OICM care center has 16 private patient rooms, imaging and other diagnostic facilities, a physical therapy area, and a 9,200 square foot nursing unit.
