CMMC College of Nursing and Health Professions Graduates 74

The Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions (CMMC CONHP) graduated 54 nursing and 20 radiography students recently in a ceremony at the Lewiston Middle School.

Having successfully completed the college's education programs, the graduates were awarded associate degrees in the applied science of nursing or radiologic technology. A number of graduating students received awards during the ceremony.

Graduates, friends, and family gathered with faculty, staff, administration, and honored dignitaries to celebrate commencement. CONHP President Susan Baltrus welcomed the guests, including: CMMC CONHP Board of Trustees Chairperson Marsha Auster; CMMC Board of Trustees Chairperson Richard Roy; and Robert Crowley of Durham, winner of the CBS reality television show "Survivor-Gabon". Reverend Jay Turner offered the invocation and benediction. Phil House was pianist.

Crowley gave the commencement address. Crowley, a retired high school physics teacher, is the oldest winner of Survivor and the first teacher to win. He advised the graduates, "Good luck and good opportunities are often the result of your own personality and work. When they come your way, take advantage of them. Life can be a wonderful journey of many steps. Step carefully and thoughtfully. Take every job you have seriously, work hard: you never know where it may lead you. If you work hard, if you are trustworthy and smile, you will be rewarded. Remember, your downturns will always be followed by upturns."

Nursing student Andaria Crespi was honored with the CMMC Board of Trustees Award, awarded to the student who exhibits excellence in delivering nursing care. The recipient demonstrates gentleness, independence, understanding, caring, compassion, and love in communicating with and caring for people.

Nursing student William Markavich Jr. and radiologic technology student Ashley Kearns were presented the CMMC CONHP Board of Trustees Awards, given each year to the students who demonstrate leadership qualities, display concern and understanding for others, make decisions and assume responsibility for his or her actions, and establish trust in interactions.
