Creatinine Clearance
The creatinine clearance test is an indirect measure= ment of the Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) by comparing measurements of serum = creatinine, urine creatinine, urine volume and time to see how well the creatinine is cleared from circulation. Because of this, it is essential that urine collection is complete and accurately timed.
Fasting is not required for this test.
The test is ordered as “Creatinine Clearance&#= 8221; with a priority of "T" (Timed). The computer will automatically transmit a supergroup order for the 24 hour urine specimen for Creatinine Clearance and an order for a serum creatinine.
A precisely timed 24 hour urine specimen, and a serum sample collected during the 24 hour period, are<= /span> required for the test. Collect the urine specimen following the standa= rd 24 hour urine procedure. The specimen should be refrigerated during the collection period.
Submit the labeled urine specimen to the laboratory = with the appropriate order labels. Indicate the patient's height and weight on t= he sticker.
