Chlam= ydia & GC Sample Collection (Gen-Probe)
The Gen-Probe Aptima assay is an amplified DNA probe= for the detection of Chlamydia or GC in urine or swab samples. The urine sample= is suitable for screening or diagnostic tesing in males and females.
Swab Collection Procedure
APTIMA Combo 2 Assay Unisex Swab Specimen Collection Kit for Endocervical and Male Urethral Swab Specimens.<= /span>
1. = Remove excess mucus from the cervical os and surrounding mucosa using the cleaning swab (white shaft). Discard this Swab.
2. = Insert the specimen collection swab (blue sh= aft) into the endocervical canal.
3. = Gently rotate the swab clockwise for 10 to 30 seconds in the endocervical canal to ensure adequate sampling.
4. = Withdraw the swab carefu= lly, avoid any contact with the vaginal mucosa.
5. = Remove the cap from the swab specimen transp= ort tube and immediately place the specimen collection swab into the transport tube.
6. = Carefully break the swab shaft at the sco= re line; use care to avoid splashing of contents.
7. = Re-cap the swab specimen transport tube tigh= tly.
1. = The patient should not have urinated for at least one hour prior to sample collection.

Label the sample wit= h the patient name, date of collection and MRN or DOB. Transport and store swab specimen transport tube at 2 – 30 °C. Assay within 60 days of col= lection. If longer storage is needed, storage at -20 °C or -70 °C for up to 90 days.
Urine Collection Procedure
APTIMA Combo 2 Assay Urine Specimen Collection Kit
1. = The patient should not have urinated for at least one hour prior sampling.
2. = Direct patient to provide a first-catch urine (approxi= mately 20 to 30 mL of the initial urine stream) into a urine collection cup. Collection of larger volumes of urine may reduce test sensitivity. Female patients should not cleanse the labial area prior to providing the specimen.
3. = Remove the cap and transfer 2 mL of urine into the urine specimen transport tube u= sing the disposable pipette provided. The correct volume of urine has= been added when the fluid level is between the black lines on the urine specimen transport tube label.
4. = Re-cap the urine specimen transport tube tightly.= This is now known as the processed urine specimen.
Label the sample with the patient name, date of coll=

and MRN or DOB. Urine specimens can be transported to the laboratory at 2 -=
30
°C in either the primary collection device (urine cup) or in the urine
specimen transport tube. Urine specimens must be maintained at 2 – 30
°C an=
d
must be transferred into the specimen transport tube within 24 hours of
collection. Processed urine specimens must be tested within 30 days of
collection.
