Name:    Urinalysis with Reflex to Microscopic Examination (Routine)
Specimen:    Submit a clean voided or cath specimen in a sterile container. Do not use a B/D transport tube. A first-morning specimen is preferred to improve diagnostic value.
Reference Range:    Urine: Color/Appearance: Yellow/Clear
 Urine Glucose, Bilirubin, Ketones, Blood, Protein: Negative
 Urine pH: 5.0 - 8.0
 Urine Specific Gravity:
 Urine Urobilinogen:
 Urine Nitrite/Leukocyte Esterase: Negative
Critical Range:    Urine Glucose: >1000 mg/mL
 Urine Ketones: >=5 mg/dL in neonates
 Urine Reducing Substances: >=1+ in neonates
 Urine Casts: >10/LPH or any waxy casts
  Method:    MultiStix/Microscopy
Note:    Deliver within 1 hour of collection or refrigerate for up to 12 hours.

A microscopic examination will be performed if indicated by the chemical examination (Positive reaction for Blood, Nitrite, eukocyte Esterase or Protein >/= 30 mg/dL).

A Reducing Substance is automatically added to all UA's on patients less than 6 months of age.
