Specimen:    0.5 mL serum from a Red SST or Red top tube, or plasma from a Green PST. Hemolyzed samples are unacceptable.
Minimum Spec:    0.2 mL
Spec Stability:    Stable 3 days refrigerated.
Reference Range:    Age <50 years -- <300 pg/mL heart failure unlikely
 Age <50 years -- 300 - 450 pg/mL heart failure possible
 Age <50 years -- >450 pg/mL heart failure likely
 Age >50 years -- <300 pg/mL heart failure unlikely
 Age >50 years -- 300 - 900 pg/mL heart failure possible
 Age >50 years -- >900 pg/mL heart failure likely
 Correlate results with clinical setting.

Processing Info:    Airfuge lipemic samples before testing.

An EDTA sample is acceptable, but not preferred. The plasma must be separated from the cells ASAP and the aliquot tube labeled "EDTA plasma".
