American Cancer Society: 1-800-464-3102 or . The American Cancer Society resource center includes comprehensive information about all different types of cancer, including the latest treatment options. ACS offers a number of patient assistance and support programs.
ASCO, the American Society of Clinical Oncologists (the world’s leading organization of medical professionals who treat people with cancer). Their “Cancer.Net” website is an accurate, reliable, and oncologist-approved source of information on more than fifty types of cancer.
Cancer Care, Inc.: 1-800-813-4673 Click on their “Cancer Types” link for lung cancer and you will obtain a wealth of information, including stages, treatments, side effects, clinical trials, and support services, including links to many relevant websites. They also provide free counseling services via their toll-free helpline, staffed by professional oncology social workers.
National Cancer Institute: 1-800-4-CANCER An excellent resource for up-to-date, accurate information about cancer, current treatment recommendations, clinical trials, and support services.
ALCASE (Alliance for Lung Cancer Advocacy, Support, and Education): 1-800-298-2436. A good source of information about lung cancer, types of treatment, support services, stories from survivors, and they also help link patients to other patients or experts in the field.
Faces of Lung Cancer: Tailored for women, this site provides lung cancer rates and information. Find personal accounts, statistics, and advice.
Also suggested is the book, Surviving Cancer by Margie Levine, published 2001. Author is a 12 year survivor of mesothelioma (a form of lung cancer) who shares her inspiring story and program for others facing a cancer diagnosis. She also has a website: http://www.margielevine.com.
