Oncology Social Workers Offer Emotional Support

Oncology social workers specialize in offering counselling support to cancer patients and their families.

At CMMC, oncology social workers are part of the care team that helps cancer patients. Social workers can assist with emotional, spiritual, financial and practical needs that arise as a result of a cancer diagnosis.

The services they offer include:

  • Counseling for coping with the emotions that arise after a cancer diagnosis is made.
  • Planning and coordinating care.
  • Assisting with access to community services such as transportation, lodging and mental health services.
  • Navigating financial assistance programs, understanding social security benefits, disability benefits and insurance coverage. Support is also available for employment-related concerns (such as FMLA or short-term disability.)
