Bladder Control Center Urodynamics Testing

What is urodynamics testing all about?

It is a series of tests that measure the function of a bladder. The test should provide information that will help the doctor diagnoses and treat your bladder problem.

Testing Instructions:

  • Please arrive fifteen minutes prior to your appointment.
  • Allow one and a half hours for the procedure.
  • Come with a full bladder.
  • Have a bowel movement within 24 hours prior to your appointment.
  • Bring your completed diary and questionnaire.
  • You may eat before you come.
  • Do not put lotion on your skin.

What will happen at the appointment?

  • Staff will review your forms with you.
  • You will undress from the waist down and put on a patient wrap.
  • You will empty your bladder on a special chair.
  • A small catheter will be inserted into your bladdder.
  • A smaller 1/8 inch tube will be placed about one inch into your rectum.
  • Two patches will be placed on either side of your anus. The tubes will then be attached to a computer and your bladder will start filling with water.
  • You will need to let the nurse know what sensations you are having while your bladder is filling up.

At the end of the procedure, the nurse will ask you to empty your bladder. The nurse will explain everything to you during the procedure. The only discomfort that you may experience, would be when the initial catheter is placed in the bladder. This sensation disappears in a few minutes.
