Body Mass Index (BMI) Chart

Body Mass Index (BMI) Determines Obesity

What, exactly, is Body Mass Index (BMI)?

BMI is a calculation of height and weight that is an indirect measurement of the percentage of fat in the body. It's a more helpful measurement than pounds alone.

BMI For Adults

What is your BMI?

A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is considered to be in the healthy range. A BMI of 25-29.9 puts a person in the overweight category. A BMI over 30 is considered early, or stage I, obesity. Health issues can arise from being overweight or obese, which means that these conditions should be addressed.

A BMI of 40 or above indicates that a person has severe, or morbid, obesity (or, a BMI of 35 and above if a person has certain medical conditions related to their obesity, such as diabetes). This is an extremely serious condition and it means a person's risk of death from any cause will increase by 50%-150%. Bariatric surgery may be a viable treatment option for individuals who are morbidly obese, as it could dramatically improve their health and possibly be life-saving.

You may want to print out your BMI results and bring them to your own healthcare provider, to discuss whether a bariatric surgery consult might be right for you.

We also invite interested individuals to attend our monthly weight loss surgery informational sessions held in our offices at CMMC.
