Bariatric Surgery - Imagine Tomorrow

Several Surgical Options Available to Treat Obesity

Central Maine Bariatric Surgery offers several surgical options. The majority of our procedures are done by minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures.

Gastric Bypass

Gastric Bypass surgery makes the stomach smaller and alters digestion so less food is eaten and fewer calories are absorbed. We create a small pouch by dividing the upper part of the stomach from the rest of the stomach. A section of the small intestine is then attached to this new pouch to allow food to bypass parts of the stomach and intestines.

Adjustable Gastric Banding

Adjustable Gastric Banding makes the stomach smaller by forming a small pouch at the top of the stomach. This smaller stomach creates the sensation of feeling full. The band can be adjusted to meet the patient's needs by adding or removing saline from the band through a needle inserted into a port located just under the skin.

Sleeve Gastrectomy

A Sleeve Gastrectomy reduces the size of your stomach to about 15% of its original size. After surgery, the remaining part of the stomach is similar to a banana-shaped "sleeve". The smaller stomach allows you to feel full after eating less food. Sometimes the sleeve is used as the first procedure in a multistage treatment plan.
