Step-by-Step Checklist for Weight Loss Surgery
Preparing for weight loss surgery includes following a number of steps that are designed to help lead to a successful outcome. Your particular process depend upon your needs; however, the general plan is the same for all patients. Following is an overview of steps.
(The length of time needed to complete these steps will vary from person to person and, in some cases, may be guided by your insurance company.)
Attend our Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery Information Session.
Schedule an appointment. You will meet with members of our team, including our surgeons, physician's assistant and bariatric nurses. We will discuss the surgical options, answer questions, and provide you with all the information you need to help you through this journey.
Meet our dietitians. Here you will learn the foundation of the dietary changes needed to maintain long-term weight loss success, through a series of educational steps.
Complete all medical screening required by our team and your insurance company.
Once all testing and clearances have been completed, our multi-disciplinary team will meet to review and approve you for surgery.
Congratulations! Your insurance has approved your surgery. Our office will call you and set up your final consultation and book your surgery date.
Attend your preoperative surgical consent appointment. At this appointment you will meet with your surgeon at our office and attend pre-admission testing at Central Maine Medical Center.
Life after surgery with us: Our commitment to you is to provide tools and resources in your weight loss journey. You will see your bariatric team frequently during the first year and annually thereafter. Our multidisciplinary team is always here to help you with medical insight, support groups, nutritional advice, exercise tips and counseling.
